Rhyl Ilaer

It's not so much that Rhyl has terrible fashion sense as that he's practical. Like many adventurers, he picks up things along the way, they become important to him, or he acquires all sorts of odd skills, and these things don't always match.

Rhyl is a half-drow. That is to say, his mother was a human thief, his father was a 'surface' drow, and much of this is irrelevant now in the grand scheme, beyond that the Eldreth Veluuthra still hate his guts and want him dead.

This is because he possesses an ancient elven artifact, the Shard of Astaroth which is, in fact, the personality of an ancient elven archmage by the name of Astaroth, who died hundreds of years ago. Astaroth was known as the 'Starmage'.

Possessing an ancient elven artifact has lead Rhyl through many interesting adventures, which have involved assisting in the awakening of an intelligent construct, fighting a demi-god, crawling through tunnels of glass in the Anarouch Desert, and killing a huge serpent, which is where the snake skin armor comes from.

He has found places where the archmage studied strange old magics, found a cloak once worn by the archmage's wife, and his own magic has come to reflect the archmage in many ways.

This results in a style that could best be known as rainbow starmage snakeskin disco halfdrow serious business.


** This drawing was an attempt to force myself to actually complete a drawing, as much as I can see many flaws now including terrible foreshortening, among other things. What matters is that I did get something done.
